Meet Associate Critic Cris Ayala
Hey everyone I went to see Wicked last Thursday night at 8:00 pm for
the first time and I really enjoyed it. For those of you that
have not seen it, it is a musical based on the two witches from the
Wizard Of Oz.
The show opens up with the death of the wicked witch of the west, and
Glinda the good witch and the citizens of Oz. The citizens of Oz
ask Glinda what made Elphaba (the wicked witch of the west) so wicked
and that is where we get the back story of how these two witches start
out as being completely different from each other, with looks being a
big difference.
Through the show they build a friendship, but things unfold as love
interests shift between characters. One becomes jealous of the other
and steals her man.
Act one ends with Elphaba turning wicked and wanting revenge on everyone that treated her differently.
In act two you get the story on the other characters and how they
become who we all know and love from the Wizard of Oz, like the Tin Man
and the Scare Crow. Through music and sets this show is very
moving and real. The topics in it are ones that everyone can
connect with, because it touches base on looks, and relationships, and
fitting in and being 'Popular.' I would recommend this show for
all ages, because the kids will love it for the 'Oz factor", and the
adults understand it for the relationships and friendships and the
other messages it sends.
Stay tuned for my next trip out to the city when I will visit a new, hot and trendy little spot near Chelsea.
