With blogs being the wave of the future, it's only fitting that
many trends we follow come directly from these journalists who happen
to have a knack for knowing exactly what's hot and what's not.
Johara Tucker founder of Luvin My Curves is one busy woman. When
she's not updating her site,
www.luvinmycurves.com
with tools that any plus size woman could use, she's volunteering her
time. As one of the founders of The Curvy Collective, Johara was
responsible for securing up to the minute access to last months Full
Figured Fashion Week for eight fellow journalists. With a new
venture in the works, Johara is Luvin Her Curves and sharing herself
with the readers of Venus Diva.
What is the purpose of Luvinmycurves?
Luvin' My Curves is a fashion and lifestyle blog that caters to the
everyday curvy woman. I wanted to give readers a front row seat to the
latest happenings in the plus size fashion industry, but discuss other
issues that affect us as well.
How did you come up with the name?
Random... the blog came about as a personal blog about my
frustration with finding cute clothes and that name made me giggle. I
figured I love my curves, so why is it that when I go shopping the
designers don't seem to love them too!
What types of things do you cover?
Fashion of course, but also dating, self-esteem, and any other
issue I feel my readers would appreciate. I also throw in tidbits
of my life (taking the Bar Exam), and I hope that my readers find it
interesting. I re cently discussed my breast reduction, an issue
that some women deal with and I was touched by the responses I
received, as the procedure has crossed many of my reader's minds.
It excites me to know that I can help people with my story.
How often is Luvinmycurves updated?
Usually 3 times a week, but I'm shooting for daily.
I know you recently passed the New York bar exam, Congratulations. Is this a full time job for you, or do you do other things?
Thank You!! Right now I'm just going along for the ride - I love Luvin'
My Curves but I'm also in the process of launching my online
consignment boutique J'haven. If a legal job comes along that would be
great, but I have a feeling that fashion is where I'll be. In the near
future I'll probably be representing models and others in the fashion
industry so that's a great blend- law & fashion.
Do you view social networking sites as a plus or negative when comparing them to what you do?
PLUS!!! To me it seems natural, my readers are online and more than
likely on the social networking sites too, it's a great way to gain new
readers and develop relationships with my current readers.
What advice do you have for anyone else wanting to start a blog?
Just do it... sometimes blogs are just cathartic and a way for one
to let their feelings out. If you're writing a blog with a bigger goal
in mind then make sure your content is fresh and keeps the readers
attention.
Has Luvinmycurves evolved in the way that you intended?
When I started Luvin' My Curves, I had no intentions so as it grows
I'm surprised and humbled. I didn't know anyone was reading it
until I started getting emails asking for advice - now it's evolved
into something beyond any expectation I could have ever imagined!!!
What is in the future of Luvinmycurves?
Well, In the fall I'll start to host some events for my readers:
high heel walking classes, dinner parties, wine tastings, roundtable
discussions - events where a curvy girl can come let her hair down and
just "be". I've also been tapped to do some speaking engagements
so I'm super exicted about that!
What are some of your favorite products that you can recommend to the readers of Venus Diva Magazine?
The perfect black dress with a touch of style, I love the boudoir dress from Kiyonna or the Convertible Dress from Monif C.
A classic watch I love the stainless steel & diamond watch from Anne Klein.
Almond Cookie lotion from Carol's Daughter- it's my go-to to smell sweet and it's not overpowering.
A string of pearls- even when I'm dressed down a string of pearls makes me look sophisticated.
Last but not least - a smile and some confidence...those are the best
products of all. You can have on the most beautiful outfit but if
you're not smiling and you don't believe in you - you're doing yourself
a disservice.
