waves in television and acting!

What is your height and curvy dress size?
I am 5'9, size 16-18
When did you first discover plus size modeling?
I first discovered plus modeling through a advertisement in the daily new from the now defunct Big Beauties Agency in New York.
Tell us how you got started as a plus size model?
I started modeling in the late 80's by going to the one of the only 3
plus agencies at the time. They put me to work very quickly. To model
for as long as I have you have to know I love it. Believe me it is
definitely something that is in my blood.
What types of clients and/or jobs have you booked as a curvy model?
I have booked so many wonderful jobs. My best bookings have been
working with photographer Oliviero Toscani who is famous for shooting
the Bennetons ads. I shot with him for Talk Magazine. Another highlight
was traveling to Greece and also shooting several commercials for the
American Heart Association this year. I definitely have booked more
work in my 30's that I enjoy like television and shows. I don't do as
much print or catalog work anymore but I have done every catalog there
is and I don't particularly miss it. I love the way my career is
constantly changing. I never know what to expect.
What has been your greatest obstacle in pursuing plus size modeling?
The greatest obstacle has been getting the same respect as a straight
size model. I have to try harder to get clients, directors and agencies
to give me that first chance to prove what I already know, I am a
excellent model. There is the obstacle of my size that has stood as a
wall. I have continuously had to prove that I am just as photogenic,
flexible with my body and marketable as the size 10 model.
What has been your greatest joy as a plus size model?
The greatest joy has been the wonderful people I have been able to be
around. I have a few wonderful plus model friends that the relationship
goes past work. My greatest achievement has been to move into my
greatest passion which is TV work.
Can you share 3 tips for women interested in pursuing plus size modeling?
- Please don't look for anyone else to validate you
- Patience, perseverance and persistence
- Any business that you want to get in you have to research all the ins and outs
