We are thrilled to share the delightful plus model, Olga...
What is your height and curvy dress size?
5' 71/2", size 22/24
When did you first discover plus size modeling?
Actually, I was browsing online one day and found VenusDivas.com.
Tell us how you got started as a plus size model?
I was always told that I was photogenic and that I should model, but I
was big all my life so I would just laugh it off. I entered a plus size
contest, took some nice pictures and lost. But, I didn't give up. I
made a portfolio and then found an ad that was looking for a plus size
model. I submitted my portfolio to the client and I got the job. I
found that ad through VenusDivas.com.
What types of clients and/or jobs does plus size model Olga book as a curvy model?
Most of my curvy career has been print work, which is great considering
that most print jobs are for the smaller plus size model. Most of my
work has been for the Plus Size Bridal Guide written by Chamein Canton.
In the book I have pictures in wedding attire, headshots for skin care
and also casual wear. I have also modeled for designers, online fashion
portals like Elegant Plus and have booked jobs as a fit model as well.
As far as acting is concerned, I have done several television talk
shows/appearances and was featured in the movie The Interpreter
starring Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn.
What has been your greatest obstacle in pursuing plus size modeling?
I am going to list them as I go - LOL!
- I started at the age of 30
- I was not the right height
- I was not the right size
- I was working full time and the mother of 3
- I really didn't see how I could make it all fit or work out!
I believe the biggest obstacle I have, and many other models, is
getting noticed. Actually, if you approach the industry with a serious
dedication, you stand out form the crowd and the the rest just falls
into place.
What has been plus size model Olga's greatest joy as a plus size model?
That I became what I was told could not work for me. I became a plus size model/actress.
I work as a freelance model and obtain my own clients. As a freelancer,
I have so much freedom to pick and choose as I may, and I am fortunate
to have great clients.
I have enjoyed the camera, working with great professionals, taking
some fantastic pics and being flown first class to Miami, FL 3 times in
one month! I have had two television segments that featured me as a
positive example of living life as a happy plus size woman. But really,
I have no idea why that can be so hard to imagine since I know hundreds
of plus size women that are sexy and super happy.
I guess my greatest joy was to have my children see this side of me.
The side of a rebel, that will not let society dictate to me what I
should weight or what I can or should not wear. I have always expressed
to my kids, to be yourself and always give it your best -- 110% --
nothing less. I gave 110% and it shows.
Making the front cover of the local paper, and appearing in magazines
like All You, Figure, and Marie Claire have been extra perks :-)
Do you have an online modeling portfolio with MuseCube.com? If so, what is the URL so we can have a look?
www.musecube.com/olgaplusmodel
If you are a MuseCube.com member, why did you choose this company to host your online portfolio over all the others?
I recall when Geoffrey (Founder of MuseCube.com) had emailed me. I was
the one that had discovered MuseCube.com and made the post on other
forums. He told me he would love to feature other plus size models. A
week after my portfolio was up I was very pleased to see how many other
plus size girls had joined. I still have that email in my modeling
journal, I kept it for good luck.
I have landed many jobs from my MuseCube.com account, including magazine tears and television shows. MuseCube.com rocks!!!
Can you share 3 tips for women interested in pursuing plus size modeling?
- This is not a game. If you are bored and just want a new hobby,
chose something else! Only if you are serious about dedicating your
time, effort and money should you consider plus modeling.
- Accept yourself, all of you. Just because you model doesn't mean
that you don't have your down time. This is when we tend to be hardest
on ourselves.
- Become a role model first. Lead by example. Clients love a pretty
face and curves, but they also want someone positive and hard-working.
Remember you are a professional, or well on your way, so you always
have to act that way.
We hope that you have enjoyed meeting Plus Size Model Olga!
